Graphic Video Of Live Birth In The Wild Spawns Reality TV Show
A new reality television series will film young mothers giving birth in the wild.
Born in the Wild was created after a controversial video of a mother giving birth in a creek clocked up over 20million hits on YouTube.
The show, announced by TV network Lifetime, will tell the story of women who wish to give birth with no help whatsoever, including medical assistance, pain relief and shelter.
Birthing locations will include rivers and forests across America.
‘What happens when the craziest experience of a woman’s life becomes truly wild, and soon-to-be parents decide to take on an unassisted birth in the outdoors?’ said the press release.
The show’s producers will hope they can replicate some of the popularity of the YouTube hit, and insist help will be on hand in case there are complications during the birth.
‘We’re taking extreme precautions to make sure the mothers and the babies are safe,’ Eli Lehrer, the senior vice president at Lifetime and head of non-fiction programming told Entertainment Weekly.
‘Our presence at these births is going to make them far safer than if they were doing it on their own.’
But responses to the show’s announcement have been mixed, with people expressing concerns that young women will be encouraged to give birth without help.
In the controversial Birthinnature video, posted in February last year, the new mother – named Simone – describes the experience as ‘profound’ and ‘powerful.’
One user wrote in a scathing response:
‘Women will start wanting a birth in nature, putting in danger babies and mothers. Shame on this woman and I hope her children will not follow their mother’s path.’
But another user showed her support for the new mum.
‘Absolutely beautiful!! Ignore the negativity and the absolute ridiculous comments on your video!’
