CeeLo Green's Shocking Sex Crime Tweets Can't Truly Be Deleted
Do you remember hearing about the 2012 rape accusations against CeeLo Green?
The story was pretty strange, with the victim saying he'd slipped a drug into her drink during dinner, leading her to wake up confused and naked with him in a room. Last week he pleaded no contest to one felony count of furnishing ecstasy to the woman, but he avoided the rape charge, maintaining he'd had "consensual relations" with her at the time.
Green (real name: Thomas DeCarlo Callaway) was sentenced to three years probation and 45 days of community service, but for some reason, he decided it would be a good idea to continue to defend himself on Twitter last week. In a series of bizarre tweets, which have since been deleted, CeeLo Green attempted to define rape -- by insisting that if a person can't remember the incident, they didn't experience it.
Green allegedly took to Twitter on Sunday, August 31, to talk about the case with his Twitter followers. According to the screenshots of his comments, he wrote things like, "If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously. so WITH implies consent" and "People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!" before engaging with other users, deleting his tweets, then deleting his Twitter account altogether.
He also compared rape to a home invasion in a strange attempt to point out that his case didn't involve enough evidence to convict him of a sex crime. Here are some of the tweets, which naturally live on despite being deleted:
UPDATE
Green had tweeted an apology before deleting his account entirely.
The tweets read:
“Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom! Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context.”
“I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it..”
“…was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I’d never condone the harm of any women. Thank you.” Sept. 2, 2014, at 7:28 a.m.
I'm not sure how he was taken out of context when he basically said a woman has to remember a rape for it to have happened. And whatever his definition of consent is, it scares the crap out of me. "WITH" doesn't imply consent, CONSENT implies consent. So if he did in fact have sex with this woman while she was unconscious, that is sex without consent, otherwise known as RAPE.
Basically, if CeeLo Green was trying to do damage control and assure the public he didn't really assault that woman back in 2012 after drugging her without her knowledge, he accomplished the exact opposite. But don't worry about him, his sentencing allows him to travel, see a private physician for drug and alcohol counseling, and serve his "community service" through an affiliate of the organization that presents the Grammy Awards.
UPDATE
Green’s Twitter account was restored this morning, with all of the offending tweets gone from the account. Though he had about 2 million followers yesterday, he now has around 178,000, possibly due to restarting his account. Sept. 2, 2014, at 5:38 p.m.
