Everybody needs a friend to vent with following a marriage separation.
And for Mariah Carey, that someone is film director Brett Ratner, according to Page Six.
A source has said that the 44-year-old Hero songstress has been spending her excess time with the Hercules filmmaker, who has previously directed some of her music videos.
'They speak frequently,' the publication was told of the duo.
Mariah and Nick, 33, confirmed their separation in August, saying that they had in fact been living apart for months.
Since then, the stunning songstress has no doubt needed the odd shoulder to cry on Ratner directed Mariah's Heartbreaker and We Belong Together music videos, and the pair are said to have remained friends - she joined him at the première of Hercules and the two have been pictured together at several public events over the years.
Mariah also posted photos of her Aspen holiday in December, where Ratner is said to have gone with her.
In her other spare time, however, the star is spending plenty of time with her children, and posted an array of snaps this week of the trio at an aquarium.
Nick took to Twitter recently to express his sentiments about his estranged wife, implying that everything was playing out in a perfectly civil manner.
'What infuriates me most is to hear people slander @MariahCarey. I will forever be indebted to her for blessing me with our children,' he wrote.
Nick added: 'I will always love her unconditionally for this and so much more. @MariahCarey is an amazing Mother and I trust her wholeheartedly...'
However, the couple are said to be warring over the split of their assets, with the diva worth a mammoth $510m, while her estranged other half has a relatively meagre fortune of just $20m.
The dynamic duo got married back in 2008, and have two children together, three-year-old fraternal twins Monroe and Moroccan.
