Mum Is The One With The Surprise As Son Comes Out...Telling His Mum He's Gay

"It's okay... it's okay" she tells him before blurting out a few home truths of her own

For teenager Hayden Smith it was the worst dilemma any boy could face: how do you tell your mother you are homosexual?

Summoning up all his courage and muttering "Oh my God, I am shaking", he calls her to his bedroom, wringing his hands nervously as he blurts out as matter-of-factly as he can: "I'm gay".

You should have been able to hear a pin drop but instead mum's got a bombshell of her own... so is she!

Well, not quite. What she does reveal is that she has been in a same sex relationship with another woman before his dad died and she understands what he is talking about.

The moving video, where teenage angst and parental concern meet in the most unlikely of places, has become an internet hit.

Posted on YouTube, the video starts with him revealing to the camera what he is about to tell her and then shouting "Mum, Mum!" to get her to come to his bedroom.

When she does, he decides to get it off his chest as quickly as he can.

She, like any mother should, responds with all the love she can, rubbing his leg and telling him everything will be okay.

"Your choice is your choice," she tells him adoringly.

"I accept you whatever way you are. You are still my boy, you are still my son. It's okay".

She asks how long he has known and he says 'for a while' and she tells him as he starts to cry: "I am here to help you. I am your mum. It's okay, honey, it's okay.

We love who you are."

It could have ended there but the shocks are far from over.

The concerned mother asks him: "Can I tell you something too since you have opened up to me?"

She pauses before saying: "I've had a girlfriend... "

The revelation is met with stunned silence by the boy - believed to be Australian - before mum hastily goes on: "Not since your dad passed away."

The video ends with the two of them happily chatting, each relieved to have found the truth about one another.
