Nick Cannon 'Could Gain Custody Of His Twins In Divorce Proceedings With Mariah Carey'

Nick Cannon stepped out looking very different on Wednesday.

The normally conservatively dressed 33-year-old TV host was wearing long gold chains, funky glasses and low-rising slacks as he stopped by the Falguni And Shane Peacock show during New York Fashion Week.

That may be because the America's Got Talent Host is going through some major life changes, like his divorce from Mariah Carey, which is resulting in several reports, like the one by Life & Style on Wednesday about how he could gain custody of their twins Monroe and Morocco.

However, Nick has already publicly stated that Mariah is an incredible mother.

Life&Style has reported that the father-of-two could potentially gain custody of his three-year-old twins, in alleged divorce proceedings with wife Mariah, 44.

According to a source for the publication, the 44-year-old singer’s friends and family are worried she may have a mental breakdown like that which took place in 200.

And Nick wants to ensure that his children are in a safe environment.

That may include bringing up his estranged wife’s past mental instability and present behavior before a judge in attempt to secure custody of the kids.

‘Her drinking has gotten out of control lately,’ a source said.

New York divorce and family lawyer Raoul Felder told Life&Style: ‘Mariah has visibly changed so much in one year – she looks wiped out, something isn’t right.

The judge will take that into account in a custody battle.’

However, Nick recently took to Twitter to vehemently deny rumours regarding Mariah.

‘What infuriates me most is to hear people slander @MariahCarey . I will forever be in debted to her for blessing me with our children...’ he wrote last Wednesday.

‘I will always love her unconditionally for this and so much more. @MariahCarey is an amazing Mother and I trust her wholeheartedly...’

As for her 2001 breakdown resulting in hospitalization, the Butterfly hitmaker previously told MTV that the situation had been overblown. It wasn’t a nervous breakdown – but exhaustion that got to her.

‘I was totally exhausted and I needed to go to sleep and I needed rest and I needed people to leave me alone and stop banging on my freaking door to get up and do a freaking video,’ she said.

‘There has been so much written and reported about me over the past year … and I've been pretty quiet up until now.

‘It wasn't like I went schizo and needed to be put in a straitjacket or tried to kill myself, what they were saying. I just think it's time to set the record straight.’

Nick and Mariah are going through a challenging patch in their marriage.

Nick reportedly previously said there was 'trouble in paradise' when asked about his marriage last month, but now claims this was made-up.

'"Trouble in Paradise" is the dumbest phrase I've ever heard! I would never say that s***' he tweeted angrily.

Reports emerged last month that Nick had said he and Mariah had been 'living in separate houses for a few months' and gave her permission to take their twins out of town.

However, Nick is now saying this is not the case, but still failed to mention if he and Mariah were having troubles or not, except for calling it a 'difficult time'.

'I have personally been absent from social media for the past few months for obvious reasons but I feel the need to finally speak up,' he began his rant.

'For the record I NEVER have, nor will I make a statement regarding my marriage,'
However, he later added that the pair are going through a 'challenging time'.

While the couple have both been spotted out recently without their wedding bands, Mariah has remained silent about the rumoured split.
